Putin justified the invasion of Ukraine allegedly by “protecting Donbas”

Reading Time: 1 min

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin cynically explained the purpose of the attack on Ukraine as “the need to protect Donbas.” He accused Ukraine of shelling the so-called “L/DPR” in the past 8 years and thus justified the aid to the separatists in Donbas and the “joining” of pseudo-republics into Russia.

According to him, a full-scale invasion was necessary to stop “Ukraine’s plans to attack Donbas”.

Putin once again stated such propagandistic narratives at the plenary session of the international discussion club “Valdai” in Moscow on October 27. His video quote was published by the Russian propaganda news agency TASS.
