The Louisiana State Issued a Proclamation to Commemorate the 85th Anniversary of the Holodomor
At the regional level, Loisiana supports the Senate’s decision to recognize the Holodomor as a genocide. The corresponding proclamation was signed on March 29, 2019 by Governor John Bel Edwards, according to the official Facebook page of the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States.
The document states that it was adopted whereas “in 1932 and 1933, millions of Ukrainian people perished at the will of the totalitarian Stalinist government of the former Soviet Union, which perpetrated a famine in Ukraine in an effort to break the nation’s resistance to collectivization and communist occupation.” The senator also expressed his deepest condolences to the victims, survivors and families affected by the Holodomor.
We recall that 23 US states recognized the Holodomor as the genocide of the Ukrainian people.
