Poroshenko called on the US Congress to admit the Holodomor as a genocide
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called on the US Congress to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. The President said this during a meeting with the delegation of the US Congress within the framework of the Munich Security Conference, the press service of the President said.
“Petro Poroshenko called on the US Congress to support the United States’ official recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933, artificially created by the Stalinist regime, as a genocide of the Ukrainian people,” the statement says on the President’s website.
We remind that the United States recognized the Holodomor in various declarative acts: Resolution of the House of Representatives dated October 21, 2003; Congress Resolution dated 13.10.2006 (order to erect a memorial on the federal state in the district of Columbia to commemorate the victims of the Holodomor-Genocide); Resolution of the House of Representatives dated September 23, 2008 (in connection with the 75th anniversary of the Holodomor).
Also, Holodomor is now recognized as genocide in seven states: Washington, Oregon, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Wisconsin.
