The documentary tells the story of the Holodomor and the still unknown facts about it. The film examines the mechanisms of the crime: “blackboards,” the law of “five ears of grain,” the travel ban, the passport system, grain procurement campaign. The protagonist of the film – eleven-year-old Yurko (grandson of director Mykhailo Ilyenko) – asks his dad about the Holodomor and gets answers to his questions: what is the Holodomor? Why did people die? Who took their food? What is genocide? Leading Holodomor researchers Olesia Stasiuk, Svitlana Markova, Roman Serbyn, Volodymyr Serhiychuk, Vasyl Marochko, Fedir Turchenko, Inna Shuhalova, Myroslava Antonovych, and Andriy Kis became scientific advisers to the film. The film was produced by Eurasia-Media.
