A public interview with Lesia Hasydzhak

On Wednesday, April 3, as part of the VOICES exhibition of the “Voices of the Peaceful People” Museum of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, a public interview will be held with Lesia Hasydzhak, Acting Director General of the National Museum of the Holodomor Genocide, museologist, candidate of historical sciences.

Anastasia Platonova, a cultural critic and curator, will moderate the conversation.

Key topics for discussion:

— What is the peculiarity of museums dedicated to preserving memory? What is their role, especially during a full-scale war? How do these museums build their relationships with audiences?

— How has the current war changed the way of speaking about tragic events in Ukrainian history and today?

— How do museums work with the memory of the events and experiences of the recent war?

— What institutional transformations and re-awareness did Ukrainian museums experience during the war?

Lesia Hasydzhak started working at the National Museum of the Holodomor Genocide in 2015 as the Deputy Director General in 2016-2017 and from July 2022 – as Acting General Director. In 2019-2021, she was the director of the International Charitable Fund of the Holodomor Museum. Member of ICOM, deputy head of the Museum Council at the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy. In 2007-2015, she worked at the NGO “Ukrainian Center for the Development of Museum Affairs” as an editor of the “Museum Space” web portal, coordinator of the information and analytical direction, the All-Ukrainian rating action “Museum Event of the Year” and the Museum Employees Support Program; was the initiator and curator of the specialised stand of museum publications at the Book Arsenal.

VOICES is a multimedia space of the “Voices of the Peaceful” Museum. As part of the exhibition, discussions and public interviews with experts on documenting the war, oral history of Ukraine, and preservation of national memory are held.
