Andrii Ivanets’ tour “Triptych. “Genocide 1933” in the Holodomor Museum

22 May 2023

How Kyiv artists during the USSR created a triptych about the Holodomor-genocide (27, May at 3PM).

1988 year. In Ukraine, they are just starting to talk timidly about the famine of 1932-1933, and two young artists from Kyiv start work on a large-scale canvas about the Holodomor. They will finish it in a year and call it “Genocide 1933”. It will be a challenge and a shock. And this will be the first painting on this topic in post-Soviet Ukraine.

What prompted the artists to do this? How did the audience and authorities perceive the picture? What family secrets do the Honcharenko brothers tell? What technical difficulties appeared during the creation of the triptych?

You will get the answers to these questions from Andrii Ivanets’ author’s tour, candidate of historical sciences, and leading researcher of the Holodomor Museum. During the excursion, the scholar will share exclusive information obtained from the authors of the unique work of art.
