The public conversation “Ukrainian resistance to collectivization and the Holodomor: courage and tragedy”

The slogan “Be brave like Ukraine” has become popular in the world since the beginning of the Russian military invasion of the territory of Ukraine. Ukrainian bravery has impressed the world, which does not know that this is a characteristic feature of Ukrainians. Exactly 90 years ago, Ukrainians bravely fought for their freedom and life.

We invite you to talk about this history page that is little known to the general public – the resistance of Ukrainians to the Soviet genocide in the early 1930s – with Natalia Romanets, doctor of historical sciences, lead researcher of the Holodomor and mass man-made famines research department of the Holodomor Museum.

The public conversation “Ukrainian resistance to collectivization and the Holodomor: courage and tragedy” will take place as part of the “INTENT” exhibition. The moderator is Yana Hrynko, curator of the exhibition.

The historian will talk about the stages of resistance, the preparation of the communist regime for collectivization and the Holodomor, and the preventive measures of resistance. About the peculiarity of this resistance, the situation of Ukrainians, successes and defeats.

The conversation will be about the consequences of defeating the resistance. However, special attention will be focused on the findings of why this resistance failed. Visitors will be able to ask Natalia Romanets questions.
