We were delighted to welcome back to the Holodomor Museum a delegation from Wales, led by Welsh politician and former Member of the Welsh Assembly, Mick(Mykhailo) Antoniw. The volunteer group arrived in Ukraine on a humanitarian mission.
Olga Tsuprykova, Deputy Director-General for International Cooperation, and Mykhailo Kostiv, Head of the Research Department on Genocide, Crimes against Humanity and War Crimes, welcomed our guests. Olga Tsuprykova thanked the Welsh guests for their efforts to support Ukraine during these extremely hard times. During the meeting, the parties also discussed opportunities for further cooperation in raising awareness of the 1932–1933 Holodomor in the United Kingdom.
During their visit to the Museum, the guests took a guided tour of the Hall of Memory and received a copy of the Museum’s publication ‘The Holodomor: Main Facts’ in English.
As a reminder, Mick Antoniw, of Ukrainian descent, is working on an initiative to erect a monument in Kyiv to Gareth Jones, the Welsh journalist who was the first to tell the Western world about the Holodomor in Ukraine.
