Join the international campaign to mark Holodomor Remembrance Day

The International Co-ordinating Committee on the Holodomor of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC), along with the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance and the National Museum of the Holodomor, has launched an international communications campaign to mark the Day of Remembrance for the Holodomor victims.

The initiative will run until 1 December 2026 under the slogan ‘Holodomor – Genocide. Remembering the Past. Defending the Future’.

The campaign aims to remind the world that the Holodomor of 1932–1933 was a genocide against the Ukrainian people, to commemorate the millions of Ukrainians who died of starvation, and to demonstrate that impunity for imperial crimes leads to their repetition. The organisers aim to enhance international understanding of how the memory of the Holodomor is directly connected to Ukraine’s ongoing struggle for independence and a just peace.

The campaign is designed to engage Ukrainian communities abroad, Ukrainians in Ukraine, international partners and allies, politicians, diplomats, educators, journalists, young people and students. It also aims to reach a broader international audience.

Among the campaign materials available throughout the month, you will find examples of social media posts, video messages from UWC leaders and partners, films and videos in foreign languages about the Holodomor, media resources, a call to join the remembrance campaign, as well as participation in commemorations, exhibitions, lectures and film screenings around the world.

The information will be shared through UWC’s social media channels, its partners, weekly newsletters, and both diaspora and Ukrainian media.

The Ukrainian World Congress calls on:

organise a march, a joint prayer or a commemoration event for the Holodomor victims in your town, coming together on behalf of those who are unable to do so in the occupied Ukrainian towns or under the threat of Russian air strikes;

light a candle of memory on 28 November at 4.00 pm local time and honour the memory of the innocent victims of the Holodomor genocide with a minute’s silence;

spread the truth about the Holodomor amongst friends, at work or in media interviews, and show your support for Ukraine.

‘We hope that our campaign will contribute to global efforts to raise awareness until such time as governments have the courage to provide Ukraine with both the military aid necessary for victory, as well as humanitarian support for survival and development on the path to a peaceful future’, added Olya Soroka, Chair of the International Co-ordinating Committee on the Holodomor and the World Holodomor Descendants Network at the Ukrainian World Congress.
