The Holodomor-Genocide and the National Congress of Ukrainian Associations in Italy have signed a memorandum of cooperation.
The partnership involves the implementation of a joint educational project entitled ‘Famine as a Weapon: The Holodomor and the Memory of the Ukrainian People’. The parties will join forces to convey the truth about the genocide of Ukrainians to the Italian and wider European communities. In particular, the collaboration involves organising exhibitions and educational events, as well as producing unique publications in Italian.
Today, in the fifth year of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, it is particularly important to speak out about the crimes aimed at the extermination of Ukrainians. Russia continues to use famine as a tool of terror: it is deliberately removing and destroying Ukrainian grain, creating humanitarian disasters in the temporarily occupied territories, particularly in Oleshky and other occupied settlements, and is starving Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilian hostages in places of unlawful detention.
This criminal terror has deep historical roots. It is our shared duty to preserve the memory of the victims of the Holodomor, to raise awareness of the genocide of the Ukrainian people, and to convey the truth about Russia’s crimes to the international community. After all, condemning genocide and fully understanding its consequences today is an important step towards preventing similar crimes in the future.
We extend our thanks to our partners for their cooperation, trust and shared commitment to preserving historical memory. We are grateful to the international community for its solidarity and support for Ukraine in its fight for justice!
