Friends, thank you to everyone who, despite a difficult night for all of Ukraine, visited the Holodomor Museum on 30 October for the lecture “Why we still #какаяразніца (Eng: ‘what’s the difference’): 400 years of Ukrainian linguicide.”
We are infinitely grateful to the well-known blogger and philologist Sofiia Bezverkha for her informative and insightful account of the numerous oppressions, repressions and bans on the Ukrainian language. And for how we survived in conditions of linguicide and preserved our language.
“They say, child, that our language is like a nightingale’s song. They are right. But keep in mind that there may come a time when even the smallest nightingale will not remember our language. Therefore, you cannot rely solely on nightingales, my child,” Sofiia Bezverkha concluded, quoting a famous work by Ivan Malkovych.
Many people probably heard new facts and arguments today. So let’s protect our linguistic space! Let’s speak Ukrainian!
