“The canvas of truth.” How Kyiv artists during the USSR created a triptych about the Holodomor-genocide.” We invite you to a new excursion
…1988 year. In Ukraine, they are just starting to talk timidly about the famine of 1932-1933, and two young artists from Kyiv start work on a large-scale canvas about the Holodomor. They will finish it in a year and call it “Genocide 1933”. It will be a challenge and a shock. And this will be the first painting on this topic in post-Soviet Ukraine.
What prompted the artists to do this? How did the audience and authorities perceive the picture? What family secrets do the Honcharenko brothers tell? What technical difficulties appeared during the creation of the triptych? And what is the purpose of St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery?
You will get the answers to these questions during the author’s tour of the Canvas of Truth.” How Kyiv artists during the USSR created a triptych about the Holodomor-genocide” by Andrii Ivanets, a candidate of historical sciences, leading researcher of the Holodomor-genocide museum. During the excursion, the scholar will share exclusive information obtained from the authors of the unique work of art.
The tour will take place on March 25, Saturday, at 3:00 p.m. in the Hall of Memory of the National Museum of the Holodomor Genocide.
The ticket price for an adult – is 85 UAH, students, pensioners – 75 UAH, and schoolchildren – 70 UAH. Payment is made immediately before the tour at the museum box office.
