On Tuesday, 16 September, Nedim Jahić, an adviser to the Srebrenica Memorial Center, visited the Holodomor Museum. / Srebrenica Memorial Center.
Mr Jahić is currently on a working visit to Kyiv. He aims to establish and expand institutional ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ukraine to further cooperation and the exchange of experience. Kateryna Kyrychenko, a postgraduate student at the Department of International and European Law at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, accompanied Mr Jahić. Together, they are meeting with representatives of key state institutions, memorial and human rights organisations, and the media.
Mykhailo Kostiv, Head of the Department for Research on Genocide, Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes, and a PhD in History, met the guests. He showed them around our memorial complex and the Hall of Memory, sharing some details about the Museum’s work. He also told Nedim Jahić about certain legal aspects of the Holodomor genocide.
The guests honoured the memory of Holodomor victims by lighting a candle in the Museum’s Hall of Memory.
Nedim Jahić emphasised that his institution finds the Holodomor Museum’s experience interesting, specifically the processing of archival materials and the organisation of information campaigns aimed at both domestic and international audiences.
During the meeting, they agreed on opportunities for further cooperation in researching genocides and preserving the memory of the tragic events experienced by our peoples.
The Srebrenica Memorial Center is the primary institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina established to honour the memory of the victims of the 1995 genocide, preserve the survivors’ testimonies, and promote awareness of the genocide and the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was opened on 20 September 2003. The memorial site includes a cemetery for the genocide victims, predominantly Bosnian Muslims.
