The photographs were discovered by a team from the Holodomor Museum during an expedition to the Sumy region in 2020. The photographs were taken in the 1930s in the Romny district. The negatives were donated to the museum’s collection by the ‘Rozvytok Posullya’ Charitable Foundation in 2022.
Three negatives bear inscriptions dating the photographs to July 1933: one concerning the towing brigade at the ‘Blücher’ state farm, one concerning the assembly of sheaf-binders, and one concerning the first threshing of winter rapeseed.
