The lower house of the Chile’s parliament – the Chamber of Deputies – adopted a resolution recognizing the Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933 as an act of genocide and a crime against human dignity. The corresponding document was adopted at the session on December 21, 2022.

“The Chamber of Deputies of Chile expresses its positive opinion and shares the criteria adopted by the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany regarding the qualification of the so-called “Holodomor” as an act of genocide and a crime against human dignity,” the document reads.

“The Chamber of Deputies and deputies of Chile express their decision to support the classification of the famine that ravaged the territories of the Ukrainian SSR, the Kuban, the Zhovtyi Klyn and other regions of the Ukrainian SSR, in the conditions of the collectivization of land by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, during 1932-1933, also known as the “Holodomor” , as an act of genocide and a crime against human dignity, including it in the list of inhumane crimes committed by totalitarian regimes,” the decision of the lower house of the parliament stated.

We thank the Chamber of Deputies for this decision and await the corresponding approval of the Senate.
