The state of Iowa recognises the Holodomor as genocide

The state of Iowa issued a proclamation on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor. It became the 33rd US state to recognise the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people and to declare November the month of remembrance of the Holodomor genocide in Ukraine. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the USA, Oksana Markarova, announced this on Facebook.

“We are sincerely grateful to Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds for her solidarity with Ukraine. I thank the Consul General of Ukraine in Chicago Serhii Koledov and the Ukrainian community for their active work in honoring the memory of the victims of the Holodomor,” added the Ambassador.

Oksana Markarova also reminded of the mourning events that will take place on November 25 in Washington. “We invite everyone to join the ceremony honoring the memory of the victims of the Holodomor in Washington on November 25 at 4:30 p.m. at the Memorial to the victims of the Holodomor,” Ms Ambassador wrote in her post.
