An expedition to Chernihiv Oblast
From August 20 to 23, 2024, our colleagues, employees of the Holodomor Oral History Department, made an expedition to the Chernihiv region. The expedition aimed to record interviews with witnesses of the Holodomor of 1932–1933 and the mass man-made famine of 1946–1947.
Over four days, our colleagues met and recorded interviews with fifteen eyewitnesses in Bobrovytsia, Kiptivka, Baturyn, Bakhmach, Sosnytsia, and Korop united territorial communities.
During the expedition, it was possible to record the memories of an eyewitness to the Holodomor, a native of the village of Krasne, Nechyporenko Yevdokia Sydorivna, who turned 106 this year.
A witness from the village of Chemer, Ivan Dmytrovych Davydenko, born in 1923, told how he was arrested under the notorious law “On five ears of grain” and exiled to Siberia. Fortunately, the man managed to escape from the camp.
Soon, we will tell the stories of these people in more detail on our social networks. All recorded testimonies will be stored in the funds of the Holodomor Museum. Later, after their processing, they will be posted on the Museum’s official website in the “Testimonies” section.
