The Swiss National Council recognises the Holodomor as an act of genocide
The lower chamber of the Swiss parliament – the National Council – recognised the Holodomor in Ukraine as an act of genocide. The relevant declaration was approved on Tuesday, September 24, with 123 MPs voting in favour. This was reported by the Swiss Watson resource.
“The National Council provably recognises as an act of genocide systematic actions that led to famine on a large scale and were committed with the intent to destroy completely or partially a national, ethnic, racial or religious group as such,” the document states.
“I am grateful to the Swiss Parliament for recognising the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people,” Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, responded to the decision. – This is a truly historic decision. And this is a crucial step on the way to restoring historical justice and preserving the memory of millions of innocent victims.”
