Ohio declares November as Holodomor Memorial Month in Ukraine
In the state of Ohio (USA), November was declared the month of remembrance for the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine.
“WHEREAS, hundreds of archival KGB documents detailed the Soviet regime’s actions and intention to destroy Ukraine’s national identity by deporting and executing Ukraine’s religious, intellectual and cultural leaders as well as those who dared to speak of the Holodomor;
WHEREAS, the official recognition of the Holodomor as a genocide by the government of Ukraine represents a significant step in adjudicating Soviet crimes and in reestablishing Ukraine’s national identity and the advancement of efforts to establish a democratic and free Ukraine that is fully integrated into the Western community of nations;
WHEREAS, the current war in Ukraine has been referred to as a genocide given that Russia has declared as its aim the extinction of Ukrainian statehood and national identity and in service of this goal is ruthlessly killing civilians, kidnapping children, destroying infrastructure and is once again using food as a weapon to exacerbate world food shortages by blockading the export of Ukrainian grain;
NOW, THEREFORE, We, Mike DeWine and Jon Husted, Governor and Lieutenant Governor of the State of Ohio, do hereby recognize November 2004 as UKRAINIAN HOLODOMOR-GENOCIDE REMEMBRANCE MONTH.”
As a reminder, in June 2018, the state of Ohio recognised the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
