11 years ago, Russia launched a war against Ukraine

20 February 2025

Today is the Day of Remembrance of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, when we remember the most tragic days of mass shootings on the Maidan and honour the Heroes of the Revolution of Dignity. It was on this day that the countdown of the black pages of modern Ukrainian history began when Russia began its military aggression. While the Maidan in the centre of Kyiv was drowning in blood, in Crimea, the “little green men” began an offensive against Ukrainian Independence.

For a long time, this war was called “hybrid,” Russia openly lied about “polite people,” “they are not there,” and about “the choice of the residents of Crimea.” But the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, finally unmasked this lie. The whole world witnessed mass murders, terror and abuse of the civilian population, the destruction of civilian infrastructure and cultural heritage and the complete destruction of entire cities and villages – this is what Putin’s “liberation” looks like. Russia’s war against Ukraine was recognized as genocide by eight states, PACE and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

Eleven years ago, on Maidan, Ukrainians defended their right to live in a democratic state governed by law and to be part of the European community. All these 11 years, Ukrainians have been defending their right to be free and independent, and to build their own state independently, without Russia. Eternal honour and gratitude to the Heroes! Our resistance continues!
