Screening of the film ‘’Lemyk. A Shot in Defence of Millions’
On 15 November, we are pleased to invite you to attend the first Kyiv screening of the film Lemik: A Shot in Defence of Millions.
The film’s plot is based on real events, centred on 18-year-old Lviv University student Mykola Lemyk. …In 1933, Soviet Ukraine continues to die in hungry agony, the Stalinist regime lies and denies the famine, and the world pretends to know nothing. In protest, student Mykola Lemyk, carrying out a task for the OUN, assassinates the USSR consulate in Lviv. By organising the murder of a Soviet official, the OUN attempts to draw the world’s attention to the tragedy of the Holodomor in Ukraine…
The film was produced by the Apostolic Chota public organisation film studio with financial support from the Lviv Regional State Administration, the Horodok territorial community, and numerous benefactors. Taras Antypovych, author of the film Black Raven and the series And There Will Be People, wrote the screenplay. The film was directed by Father Mykhailo Hredil, a military chaplain and head of the Apostolic Chota public organisation. The lead role is performed by Nazar Boniashchuk, an actor at Lesia Ukrainka National Academic Drama Theatre. The producer is Uliana Hredil. Filming took place in Lviv, Horodok, Komarno, and Nahuievychi.
The event will feature a meeting with the project’s creative team, including director Father Mykhailo Hredil, producer Uliana Hredil, and screenwriter Taras Antypovych.
Lemyk: A Shot in the Defence of Millions is a film about courage and self-sacrifice, about how one person becomes the voice of millions who were forced to keep silent about their pain. It is a story worth knowing and a film worth seeing!
