Light a virtual candle of remembrance on Wikipedia!

21 November 2025

Dear friends, we invite you to support the annual Wikipedia campaign,Candle of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holodomor of 1932–1933.This campaign will take place from November 22 to December 1, inclusive. Everyone who wishes to participate is welcome to join us!

“This year, we would like to focus the campaign on your small homeland: the village or town where you or your parents live, where people survived the Holodomor. We suggest starting small: simply open the Wikipedia article about your village and read the information there. Is there any information about the Holodomor? Are there any photos?’ comments Anton Protsiuk, programme coordinator at Wikimedia Ukraine. ‘And if there is no text or there is not enough, please add it. Correct mistakes, add links to publications in newspapers or on the internet, and add photos or videos. Millions of people died, and it is crucial to transform these horrific statistics into human stories, into the history of the villages and towns of our country, and make them accessible to the world.”

This year, Wikipedia is also encouraging people to add information about memorial sites or burial sites of Holodomor victims. It will help us preserve data about monuments and memorials that are not registered by the state, which is particularly important during times of war. You can view the existing lists at w.wiki/G7w9 and send any missing information to [email protected] so that it can be added to the list!

Join us! Light a virtual candle of remembrance on Wikipedia! Let’s come together to preserve the memory of the Holodomor.
