Statement of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide

6 July 2026

The National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide emphasises that memorials dedicated to commemorating the victims of the Holodomor, as well as their images, should always be used with respect for the memory of the Holodomor victims. Any modification or reinterpretation of such memorial imagery that alters the memorial’s symbolic meaning, undermines its purpose, or shows disrespect for the memory of the millions of Holodomor victims is unacceptable.

We call on public institutions, civil society organisations, political leaders, media outlets, and all those who use memorial imagery in the public sphere to respect the purpose of such memorials and to refrain from using images of memorials dedicated to the victims of the Holodomor in any context unrelated to commemorating the victims of the Holodomor, researching this genocide, or raising public awareness about it.
