Game ‘Slovo House’

On 19 July, we invite you to embark on a journey to Kharkiv in the 1930s, an era when Ukrainian literature experienced both a creative boom and brutal repression.

The legendary ‘Slovo’ house, built in the late 1920s specifically for Ukrainian writers, became a home to a whole host of outstanding artists. Mykola Khvyliovyi, Mike Johansen, Pavlo Tychyna, Nataliia Uzhvii, Volodymyr Sosiura, Ostap Vyshnia, Oles Kurbas, Ivan Bahrianyi, and many other figures whose names remain little known to this day all lived here.

During the game, you will ‘visit’ their flats, see unique photographs and autographs, and discover little-known facts about their lives and creative work. You will also experience the atmosphere of a time when every word could lead to persecution, and fear and censorship determined people’s fates.

Come and gain a fresh perspective on the history of the ‘Slovo’ House and its residents, and gain a deeper understanding of the value of creative freedom.

The game was developed by the Kharkiv Literary Museum. The creators are Maryna Kutsenko and Olha Cheremska.
