📝On 30 October, on the occasion of Ukrainian Language Week, the Holodomor Museum will host a topical lecture entitled ‘Why we still #какаяразніца (Eng: “what is the difference”): 400 years of Ukrainian linguicide’.
Lecturer Sofiia Bezverkha @krapka.krapka, philologist, cultural blogger, and ambassador of all things Ukrainian, will discuss how Russia has persecuted the Ukrainian language for centuries, seeking to destroy it as the key marker of Ukrainian identity.
▪️Is it true that the Ukrainian language has experienced 134 bans?
▪️How did the spelling of Stalin’s friend’s name come about in the midst of the Holodomor?
▪️What are “sadovyna”, “vidoserdnytsia”, “zahrava pivnichna”, and other words that were taken away from us?
▪️Why is language = identity, and how did the Muscovites manage to erase the identities of all the republics in the USSR?
▪️Why was the letter Ґ repressed?
▪️Will the scientific terminology destroyed by Russia be restored?
You will learn all about it during the lecture.
