Memories that they tried to erase: The NGO “Eastern Variant” will hold an online event about the Holodomor in eastern Ukraine
On 20 November, at 6 p.m., “Eastern Variant” is organising an online event entitled “The Holodomor in Eastern Ukraine: Memories They Tried to Erase.”
Every year on the fourth Saturday of November, Ukraine commemorates the victims of the Holodomor and mass artificial famines.
The online event “The Holodomor in Eastern Ukraine: A Memory They Tried to Erase” is a conversation about how eastern Ukraine experienced the famine, why the Soviet authorities concealed the genocide, and how we are now restoring the history of these events.
Let’s talk about:
• what the Holodomor was like in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions;
• how commemorating the Holodomor victims became a form of resistance in the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Date: 20 November (Thursday)
Time: 18:00
Format: online via ZOOM

• Nadiia Temirova, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of History and Archaeology at Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University;
