Public dialogue “Life After Life. Personal Book Collections In Ukrainian Cultural Institutions”

On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 5:00 PM, the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide will host public dialogue “Life After Life. Personal Book Collections In Ukrainian Cultural Institutions”.

As part of the event, the collection of Volodymyr Vasylenko (1937–2023), Doctor of Law, professor, international lawyer, diplomat, author of the legal assessment of the Holodomor as genocide, former employee of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide, will be transferred to the museum’s book collection.

What is the destiny of private book collections after their owner passes away? Is it possible for private book collections to “survive” after the death of their owners? How do cultural institutions work with transferred book collections? We will discuss these and other questions with our speakers, sharing our experiences.

Liliia Pravoverova, Head of the Department of Depository Storage of Scientific Collections of the National Scientific Medical Library of Ukraine;

Svitlana Starovoyt, Acting Director of the Sectoral State Archive of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Candidate of Historical Sciences;

Taras Marusyk, Journalist, Cultural scientist, Publicist, Translator, Civic Activist;

Olha Patselia, Curator of the Library Collection at the National Museum of Holodomor-Genocide.

The event will also feature an exhibition of the most valuable books from Volodymyr Vasylenko’s library.
