29 August is Day of Remembrance for the Defenders of Ukraine
On August 29, we commemorate the defenders of Ukraine who perished in the struggle for Ukrainian independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The date was established in honour of the heroes of the Ilovaisk tragedy of 2014, when Ukrainian soldiers, leaving the encirclement through the so-called ‘green corridor’, came under treacherous fire from Russian troops. It happened right in the fields of blooming sunflowers, which have since become a symbol of the day of remembrance.
The enemy blatantly violated previous agreements and, even then, in the first year of the Russian-Ukrainian war, made it clear that negotiations and any agreements with those who want to kill you are worthless…
Today, we honour all those who gave their lives for Ukraine’s freedom and express our gratitude to the soldiers who continue to defend our homeland.
Glory and everlasting remembrance to those who keep their eternal watch.
With profound respect and gratitude to all defenders, thanks to whom the heart of Ukraine continues to beat…
