The Holodomor Museum was given the Artistic Concept of the future exposition of the second phase

24 July 2024

On Tuesday, July 23, in the Hall of Memory, the official presentation of the Introductory Artistic Concept of the main exposition of the second phase of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide took place. Ivan Vasiunyk, head of the Fund’s Supervisory Board, handed over the document on behalf of the Holodomor Museum’s International Charitable Fund to the Museum’s General Director, Lesia Hasydzhak. The act of acceptance and handover of the package of documents was signed by Lesia Hasydzhak and the executive director of the Holodomor Museum Fund, Tetiana Lyshnevets.

“Today, we are very happy to receive the rights and the entire package of documents, which is called the “Introductory Artistic Concept”. It is it which gives us an idea of what the Museum will be like. This is not a detailed project. There is still a lot of work ahead. But at least we understand where we are going and how much we still have to do,” said the head of the Museum, Lesia Hasydzhak, in her opening remarks.

It is worth reminding that the work on the project of the Introductory Artistic Concept of the main exposition of the Second Phase of the Holodomor Museum continued in 2020-2022 within the framework of the Memorandum of Partnership concluded between the Museum, the Fund and the state represented by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine. The Holodomor Museum was fully responsible for its content, involving specialists from related institutions. At the same time, professionals from well-known European design companies Nizio Design International (Poland) and Haley Sharpe Design (Great Britain) were involved in creating the visual part.

“I emphasise that this project is Ukrainian, it was created by Ukrainian scholars, historians, museum workers. However, in order to make everything modern and interesting for visitors – Ukrainians, foreigners, people of different ages – two international design companies were involved because this industry is just starting to develop in Ukraine,” emphasised Lesia Hasydzhak.

The creation of the project was financed by non-state funds of Ukrainian benefactors, who were united by the International Charitable Fund of the Holodomor Museum, attracting and paying more than 800,000 US dollars. “We, as a Fund, will mobilise, despite the difficult times of the war, funds for the next stages of design – this is the design project of the main exposition and the technical project,” Ivan Vasiunyk said.

The need to complete the Holodomor Museum as a crucial component of national memory was emphasised by the third President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, during whose presidency the construction of our memorial complex was started, and its first phase was opened.

“That spirit, that energy that everyone needs today – from the Ukrainian soldier to the average Ukrainian – is the energy given by our memory, our culture, our church, our history, which they have been trying to steal from us for the last 300 years. Listen to Mykola Khvyliovy, the messenger of the 20th century. His main moral and political commandment: “Get Away From Moscow!”. And then, I am convinced, our nation will grow wings. And this project is one of the topics that allows these wings to grow. This is one of the pages of our struggle,” Viktor Yushchenko emphasised.

Members of the Supervisory Board of the Holodomor Museum Fund participated in the event: His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), Mykola Kmit, Stepan Kubiv, representative of the Blessed Epiphany, Metropolitan Evstratiy.
