The publication “Holodomor: Main Facts” is freely available in Danish

Dear friends, our publication “Holodomor: Main Facts” has another version in Danish. Annelise Ebbesen, Bohdan Kost, and Anna Voloshchenko, head of the NGO “Women for Ukraine,” volunteered to translate it.

“The Holodomor is a wound that lives in our blood. For me, it’s not just history — it’s the cry of millions who were killed simply for being Ukrainian. As Russia once again tries to erase us, memory becomes our weapon. It’s deeply important to me that the truth about this genocide is shared in Danish — so it can be heard, understood, and remembered around the world,” Bohdan Kost, the coordinator of the translation project, emphasised.

Anna Voloshchenko added: “For me, as a Ukrainian, recognizing the Holodomor as genocide is a matter of justice and remembrance. I grew up with stories of the Holodomor in my family history, but most of the world still does not know or acknowledge this crime. Therefore, working on this initiative is my way of speaking to the world about our history, the pain we carry through generations, and why this memory is so relevant today. And it’s not just about the past. It’s part of our ongoing struggle for life and freedom now.”

Translator Annelise Ebbesen, thanks to whom the truth about the Holodomor will be heard in Danish, explains her participation in the project as follows: “Holodomor is the name for the Soviet Union’s systematic starvation of the Ukrainians in 1932-33. As I read about the historical facts, I think: This is fascism, this is what an authoritarian and powerful elite can get away with doing to an independent people they consider inferior – when no one holds them accountable. Therefore, it is important that we in Denmark, too, recognise the Holodomor as genocide. Especially now that Russia is once again attacking the Ukrainian people with bombs and death.”

We are sincerely grateful to our volunteers for their work and concern. The publication is now available on our website. You can download it free of charge and use it in the appropriate language environment for educational work.

As a reminder, “The Holodomor: Main Facts” (authors: Doctor of Philosophy in History Mykhailo Kostiv and Candidate of Historical Sciences Andrii Kozytsky) is part of the International Information Project “Truth is Nearby”. It aims to convey the truth about the Holodomor and the Soviet occupation of Ukraine among the foreign public in their native language. The brochure was published in Ukrainian, English, German and French (you can purchase it at the Museum’s box office or online. Please see our website in the “Support the Museum” section). Translations into Modern Greek, Spanish, Serbian, Turkish and Bulgarian are available on our website as well.
