Why We Study Our Family History: we invite you to a practical session with a psychologist
On October 22, the Holodomor Museum will host a talk workshop, “Transgenerational trauma: why we study our family history.”
Speaker of the event:
Dina Veselkova is a psychologist, systemic family therapist, head of the section of systemic family psychotherapy of the Ukrainian Union of Psychotherapists, host of the psychoeducational YouTube channel “Dina Veselkova” and the author of a video about the psychological consequences of the Holodomor.
During the event, the speaker will explore how trauma is passed down through generations and provide resources to help create a genogram for researching your family history.
Today, as we fight for our freedom again, it is crucial to endure physically and preserve ourselves morally. Not everyone has the strength to resist psychological pressure. Additionally, many people have layers of unprocessed traumas that negatively affect their everyday life and their perception of themselves and others. Ukrainians still feel the psychological consequences of the Holodomor at a subconscious, deep level.
We experience feelings of loss, fear and distrust. As a result, anxiety, depression and apathy are becoming more common. Family therapist Dina Veselkova will tell you how to cope with the psychological consequences of genocide.
The meeting aims to analyse the impact of the genocidal policy against Ukrainians and learn the mechanism of dealing with psychological trauma. It is extremely important to talk about traumatic events as much as possible, honour the memory of the victims, learn the truth and research your family history.
