Agreement on the Special Tribunal for the crime of Russian aggression against Ukraine signed
On 25 June in Strasbourg, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset signed an agreement on establishing a Special Tribunal for the crime of Russian aggression against Ukraine. The signing was broadcast on the Council of Europe’s YouTube channel.
“The tribunal, legally launched today, makes it possible to bring to justice the leadership of the Russian regime, which committed crimes against our state and people. We will work to establish justice for all victims. The criminals must be brought to justice in The Hague and punished,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasised.
The President said it was crucial that the Special Tribunal’s charter clearly states that the head of state, head of government and foreign minister will be held accountable for crimes, without any mention of personal immunities. They will not avoid punishment even after leaving their positions.
