Czech Senate recognises deportation of Crimean Tatars as genocide
18 December 2024
The Czech Senate on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, recognised the mass deportation of Crimean Tatars as an act of genocide. Maria Mezentseva, the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the PACE, announced it.
Of the 76 senators present, 70 voted in favour, four abstained, and no one voted against.
The Senate gave a standing ovation to the representative of the Ukrainian delegation, Mustafa Dzhemilev, who spoke about the importance of supporting Ukraine today.
As a reminder, on October 16, 2024, Estonia recognised the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people in 1944 as an act of genocide. Thus, today, in addition to Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Canada, Poland, and Estonia have supported the recognition of this crime as genocide.
