The Gulag History Museum closed in Moscow

15 November 2024

The Gulag History Museum was closed in Moscow on November 14, media reports. The official reason is a violation of fire safety rules. In particular, the reason was found in… the ventilation shaft of the Moscow metro, which goes right into the museum premises. It is significant that the museum has occupied this very space since 2015. Until now, no questions have been raised about it.

The Gulag History Museum, established in 2001, is a state-owned institution dedicated to the study and remembrance of the victims of Soviet repression.

Many believe this so-called “temporary closure” is permanent. Such institutions are unnecessary in a country that has already become a Gulag.
