The PACE recognises the Holodomor as an act of genocide of the Ukrainian people
On the evening of October 12, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) voted to recognise the Holodomor as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people. The decision was supported by 73 MEPs, only one was against it.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the MEPs for this step. “I am grateful to the Parliamentary Assembly for recognising the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people. Restoring historical justice and commemorating the victims of the Holodomor sends a clear signal that justice is inevitable for all past and present crimes of Moscow,” the president wrote on the social network.
In turn, the MFA of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, emphasized that PACE’s call is extremely crucial to follow this example. “I thank PACE for recognizing Stalin’s 1932–1933 Holodomor as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people. It is also important that PACE encouraged all all parliaments of Council of Europe member states and other parliaments to follow suit. This is a morally, historically, and politically right thing to do” he said.
Thank you to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe! This is an important step to restore justice!
