“Ukrainian Priority” Publishing House warehouse destroyed in Kyiv during shelling

18 June 2025

On the night of 17 June, during a massive Russian shelling, the book warehouse of the Ukrainian Priority publishing house in Kyiv was destroyed. The attack destroyed the publishing house’s office and burned the warehouse, which contained tens of thousands of copies of various publications.

“Last night in Kyiv, the katsaps, for God’s sake, hit not only residential buildings and hospitals but also hit a strategic object: the office and warehouse of our publishing house Ukrainian Priority were completely destroyed and burned. Thousands of books with over 130 different titles were burned. These include literature about our history, from the Scythian era to the present day. We can understand these monsters because, among the readers of our books, there is not a single hero of the crossing of the Tisza or the storming of Monaco. Our readers have been defending Ukraine from the very first days since this is paramount for real Ukrainians. Today, I have been raking the ashes of fourteen years of my life with my own hands, but I know about the Phoenix. So I am confident that everything will be Ukraine! The Ukrainian Priority will rise from the ashes!” Volodymyr Shovkoshytnyi, the founder and head of the publishing house, expressed this in a post on his Facebook page.

The publishing house reports that there are only three editions left in stock: the Scythians trilogy, Arey’s Sword by Ivan Bilyk and Blood Feast by Volodymyr Shovkoshytnyi. To support the Ukrainian Priority, you can purchase these books. The publishing house has also announced a campaign called “Bring Back Ukrainian History”, which aims to revive the collection of historical books of the Ukrainian Priority, which includes about 50 titles covering the period from the Scythians to the present day. Anyone can support the book printing by donating to the publishing house’s PrivatBank card 5169 3351 0715 7980. Mark “payment for books”.

The Ukrainian Priority Publishing House was founded in 2011 by writer Volodymyr Shovkoshytnyi. As stated on its official website, the primary work areas are historical novels and scientific and journalistic works that destroy myths about Ukraine and its history created by Soviet and imperial propaganda. To date, Ukrainian Priority has published over 100 authors: both authors of contemporary Ukrainian literature and recognised classics. They include 9 Shevchenko Prize laureates.
