Record of Ukraine: The museum audio guide about the Holodomor in 33 languages will receive a national award

The Holodomor Museum set a Ukrainian record by presenting an audio guide in 33 languages. The award ceremony will take place on June 2 at 12:00 in the Museum’s Hall of Memory (3 Lavrska Street).

Speakers:

  • Oksana Kononchuk, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor of the Department of Languages ​​and Literatures of the Middle East, Persian language instructor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv;
  • Kim Suk Won, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor of the Department of Languages ​​and Literatures of the Far East and Southeast Asia, Korean language instructor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv;
  • Yu Mi Gung, assistant of the Department of Languages ​​and Literatures of the Far East and Southeast Asia of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Through the video, project volunteers from around the world will join the event: Mahmudi Nima (Iran), Jan Navratil (Czech Republic); Gulnaz Desupova (Kazakhstan), representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora in Germany, Maryna Dmytryshyn (Greece), Salvatore Mazza (Italy).

In July 2019, the National Museum of the Holodomor Genocide launched the International project “Audio Guide for Everyone”. The project provided for the translation of the text of the museum tour into 33 languages  in order to place information on audio guides.

An audio tour in 33 languages ​​is now available at the Museum, which is perhaps the largest language variation of any museum in the world. For 1.5 years, the museum staff, together with volunteers, NGOs and embassies, created, translated and read the audio tour and signs to the exhibits.

The scale of the project is impressive: 20 organizations and 135 people worked on the audio guides. 170 hours of audio were recorded in 1.5 years.
