Lesia Hasydzhak participated in the meeting of the Organizing Committee for the preparation and holding of events in connection with the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine

On Wednesday, November 16, a meeting of the Organizing Committee for the preparation and holding of events in connection with the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine was held in Kyiv. The National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide was represented at this meeting by acting General Director Lesia Hasydzhak.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk and the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak chaired the meeting, who are co-chairs of the Organizing Committee, as well as the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko.

Several important issues were discussed at the meeting, in particular, the plan of activities for 2022-2023 in connection with the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine; work aimed at recognition by foreign states and international organizations of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people; the reconstruction of the first phase and the construction and commissioning of the second phase of the National Museum of the Holodomor-genocide, as well as the preparation and deadlines for completing work on the updated exposition of the National Museum of the Holodomor-genocide.

The Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Oleksandr Tkachenko, emphasized the importance of preserving and spreading the memory of the Holodomor genocide, in particular, through the institutional support of a key institution that takes care of the Holodomor theme – the National Museum of the Holodomor-genocide.

The head of the Holodomor Museum, Lesia Hasydzhak, spoke about the progress of work on the future exhibition.

“Work on the project of the main exposition of the second phase of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide has been going on for several years, starting in 2019. Today, a point has long been put in the scientific concept, – Ms. Lesia noted. – Work continues on the museological concept, which is being worked on by a joint international group. In addition to the core, which consists of Ukrainian historians, museologists and specialists from related disciplines and fields, consultants and experts are involved in the work. The artistic concept of the exposition is in the final stage as a component of a complex and detailed design project.”

As a reminder, on November 23, the Holodomor Museum will present a unique exhibition, “Leica that saw the Holodomor.” This year, the nationwide commemoration of the Holodomor victims will hold on November 26. At the same time, commemorative events in connection with the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor genocide will continue throughout the next year.
