Presentation of the publication about Ukrainian Donbas at the beginning of the 20th century and Bakhmut resident Mykyta Shapoval
On July 18, 2023, at 12.00 in the Hall of Memory of the National Museum of the Holodomor-genocide (Kyiv, 3 Lavrska St.), the publication “Mykyta Shapoval. Biography Scheme. Biography. Letters” will be presented, which is the result of the cooperation of the “Kryla” CPGA, the NGO “Kyiv Murals” and Anzhela Savchenko personally with the financial support of the “Isolation” Foundation and the EU.
It is a unique collection that not only introduces into the public space the epistolary heritage of the Ukrainian public and political figure, a native of Bakhmut Mykyta Shapoval and draws attention to the generation of Ukrainian interwar emigration in Europe but also, most importantly, refutes the myths surrounding the history of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and provides evidence of identity falsification of the Ukrainian East.
The publication contains memories of Mykyta Shapoval’s childhood in the Donetsk region, the beginning of its proletarianization, family letters that illustrate the atmosphere of the formation of the Bolshevik occupation of the Donetsk region, maps, as well as photographs of settlements with which the pages of Mykyta Shapoval’s life are related, and which were destroyed during the Russian war in Ukraine.
