The performance to the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor-Genocide will be shown in the public transport of Kyiv
National Museum “Holodomor Victims Memorial” together with the theater-studio “Mif”, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and Municipal Enterprise “Kyivpastrans”, invite mass media representatives to a press-tour presentation of the “THOSE WHO ARE ROAMING” performance.
Millions of Kyivans use trolleybuses and metro every morning to go to work. They move by usual routes, think about everyday worries and make plans, until they hear at once: “I was in the daughter-in-law in Svynars family. As the famine started, all died out, only I was left alone. The father-in-law, mother-in-law, and their two children – Hryshka and Haniuta – died. They died because there was nothing lest in the house except for the ashes. They took everything out; even the land beneath the benches was crocheted”. This is the story of Maria Dzhulai. But she is not unique. There are many of them. They appear in the darkness of history in the present, and tell the things they have never told to anyone. Because some died in a terrible 1933, and the authorities forced those who survived to forget about this crime, so that no word of truth would not reach the neat generations. Wearing their poor cloths, wrapped in hollowed scarves, the only things that remained unchanged for food, they quietly enter the transport and disappear. They are roaming, because they were buried without the proper Christian ritual. No one cried or prayed for them. Even more, not every family knows the names of those ancestors who were victims of Holodomor-genocide in 1932-1933. They are roaming, reminding us of our debt. And only when we know the names of everyone from more than 7 million dead, and install all the places of mass graves, only then they will find eternal rest.
The presentation of the performance (press tour for journalists) will be preceded by a briefing planned to be attended by Yevgen Nyschuk, Minister of Culture of Ukraine, Olesia Stasiuk, Director General of the National Museum “Holodomor Victims Memorial”, Oleksandra Kravchenko, artistic director of the theatrical studio “Mif” and a representative of Municipal Enterprise “Kyivpastrans”.
