Presentation of the documentary “Erase the Nation” and the project “Propaganda that Kills”
The National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide invites you to the presentation and screening of the documentary film “Erase the Nation” (directed by Tomasz Grzywaczewski, Poland). The event will also include a presentation of the “Propaganda that Kills” project created by the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide.
The event will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, in the Hall of Memory of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide (Kyiv, 3 Lavrska St.).

During the year of the Russian-Ukrainian war, according to official data alone, more than 1,100 facts about the destruction of Ukrainian cultural heritage by the Russian military were recorded. These are museums, theatres, archaeological sites, religious buildings, and educational institutions. The number of destroyed objects is increasing every day, and the situation in the occupied territories and settlements where intense fighting continues is unknown. In addition, we deal with the seizure of museum collections, which is a violation of all norms of international law.
“Erase the Nation” is a documentary film about Russia’s crimes against the cultural heritage of Ukraine, commissioned by the National Institute of Cultural Heritage of Poland within the framework of the Center for Cultural Support in Ukraine.
The film is about individual cases of deliberate destruction of Ukrainian monuments in Lviv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Ivankiv, Kharkiv, Izium, and Bohorodychne. However, they allow us to imagine the scale of Russia’s crimes against the cultural heritage of Ukraine, and its national identity, which the Russian invaders are so persistently trying to erase. The film is a message to international organizations and the world community, its purpose is to show the brutality of the destruction and the scale of assistance that is and will be necessary for the protection and restoration of cultural heritage in Ukraine.
“Propaganda that kills” is a project of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide, in which we analyze the influence of Russian propaganda on the formation of hatred towards Ukrainians. We debunk typical rashist narratives and demonstrate their real tasks using specific examples. After all, totalitarian regimes that commit genocides usually look for a justification for the destruction of human groups and launch aggressive propaganda for it. The maelstrom of anti-Ukrainian rhetoric with undisguised calls for genocide is precisely what we are witnessing in the modern Russian Federation.
Propaganda operated according to this scheme in Stalinist and Soviet times in general – to create an image of the enemy and use all possible means to “neutralize” it. How it works is explained in our project.
