The format of the conference is mixed. Face-to-face, remote and part-time participation is possible.

The study of the Holodomor topic — the genocide of the Ukrainian people — is particularly crucial in view of today’s challenges, in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The crimes of the armed forces of the Russian Federation during the full-scale invasion evoke direct analogies with the events of the first third of the 20th century and are officially recognised by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine as genocide of the Ukrainian people. It allows us to draw clear parallels with the events of 90 years ago – the Holodomor of 1932-1933.

The aim of the conference is to emphasize the actualization of research into the starvation of millions of Ukrainians in 1932-1933. At the same time, the participants of the conference are invited not only to analyze the conditions in which the crime of genocide took place but also to determine the historical impact of the events of the 20s and 30s of the 20th century on the present. The conference will make it possible to better understand the transgenerational consequences of the Holodomor genocide, which still influence the formation of the worldview of Ukrainians, and the directions of movement of civil society and the state.

Discussions at the conference will include, but not be limited to, the following topics:

  1. Historiography, source base and modern research methods of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine.
  2. Holodomor-genocide of 1932-1933 in the modern educational space.
  3. Problems of museification of the Holodomor-genocide of 1932-1933 and commemorative practices.

Scholars, local historians, educators, and representatives of civil society are invited to participate.

The materials of the conference will be published in a separate collection. In order to publish your report (article), it must meet the requirements attached. The article should be sent to [email protected] by December 10, 2023.
