Workshop: ‘Family Tree: Searching for Our Roots’
On 27 June 2026, we invite you to the Holodomor Museum for a workshop entitled ‘Family Tree: Searching for Our Roots’.
The speaker is Roman Moldavskyi, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Senior Research Fellow at the Holodomor Museum.
Exploring and tracing one’s roots enables us to understand how people from different generations are connected. In this way, the past seems to come to life and becomes easier to comprehend. Every genealogical study helps to preserve not only national memory, but also weaves the history of an individual family into the broader historical context of events.
Genealogy, as a specialised discipline, can confirm or refute family traditions and legends. Thanks to the widespread use of its tools, it is now possible to transform a detached text from a textbook into a personal life narrative, restore lost connections, and discover untapped resources for growth.
The workshop will give participants the opportunity to:
- gain a clear understanding of family history as an integral part of one’s identity;
- determine where to start when researching their family history;
- familiarise themselves with the different types of online genealogy platforms;
- understand the main stages of genealogical research;
- learn about methods for working with parish registers and how to use the principles of genealogy to
- reduce the time spent searching for information;
- see which sections make up a parish register;
- apply the knowledge gained to further research and document the results of their genealogical research.
