On May 8, a delegation of the Council of Europe Observatory, consisting of the Chairman of the Board and Bureau Dimitris Sotiropoulos, Executive Director Aurora Ailincai, and a representative of the Secretariat Yuliia Kochnieva, visited the Holodomor Museum.

The mission of the Council of Europe Observatory is to promote high-quality historical education to improve understanding of democratic culture. Ukraine joined the Observatory as an observer country in 2023 and became a full member in 2024. It is crucial to form and disseminate truthful narratives about our state’s historical past in European countries.

During the visit, the distinguished guests viewed the exhibition dedicated to the events of the Holodomor of 1932-1933, listened to a guided tour, and honoured the memory of the innocent victims of the criminal communist regime by lighting candles at the Altar of Memory.

The delegates also had an in-depth conversation with Lesia Hasydzhak, the head of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide, on preserving historical memory and countering disinformation.
