An international scientific conference "Artificial famines in Ukraine in the XXth century" will take place in Kyiv

All-Ukrainian human rights organization “Memorial” named after Vasyl Stus will organize in May 2018 an international scientific conference “Artificial famine in Ukraine in the XXth century”. This was announced by the deputy chairman of the board of the organization Yuri Balanyuk during a press conference in Ukrinform.

“On May 16, we are holding an international conference on artificial famine in Ukraine of the last century”. In May of 1933, when the grass had not yet descended, when there was nothing to eat, most Ukrainians dying, “he said.

In particular, the organizers created the Holodomor.com.ua site, where you can apply for participation.

“The main goal of this event is to convey the truth about the Holodomor, its victims, organizers and performers,” said Bogdan Morklyanik, the first deputy chairman of the Memorial.

The organizers of the conference also created a board of trustees of the scientific event, which included, in particular, the first and third Presidents of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk and Viktor Yushchenko.

“The conference also has to answer one important question: that the Holodomor is one of the links of those actions directed against the Ukrainian nation, against the Ukrainian ethnic group,” Kravchuk emphasized.

Co-organizers of the scientific conference are the National Museum of the Holodomor Victims’ Memorial, the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, and the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

The event will be held with the support of the World Congress of Ukrainians.

We remind, that historians gave a press conference on the situation around the scale of Holodomor victims, which emphasized the number of at least 7 million victims of the Holodomor within the administrative territory of the Ukrainian SSR.
