Light a virtual candle of memory on Wikipedia — tell the world more about the Holodomor genocide

22 November 2024

From November 23 to December 1, 2024, we invite you to participate in lighting a virtual candle in memory of the Holodomor genocide on Wikipedia, the largest online encyclopedia.

There are various ways to join the action:

1) plan to participate in a commemoration event, take photos, and upload them to Wikimedia Commons, Wikipedia’s sister project, which hosts photos to illustrate articles;

1) look at the Wikipedia article about your native village, city or town – is there a mention of the Holodomor there? Does it provide data on the number of victims associated with those events or other data?

3) add information about cultural heritage sites associated with the memory of the Holodomor to articles about settlements, illustrate them, and create full-fledged articles (provided that there are enough sources).

The project page titled “Candle in Memory of the Victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933” includes a list of articles that can be started or improved.

If you have never written articles for Wikipedia before, you can refer to the cheat sheet or the editing brochure for guidance. Additionally, there are videos available that can assist you with registering on Wikipedia, as well as improving or creating an article or adding illustrations to it.
