Banner with letters Z and V in Ulan-Ude

In the capital of the Republic of Buryatia, Ulan-Ude, a Russian tricolour with the letter Z depicted on the Lenin monument was installed at the end of April 2022. The banner did not hang for a long time – it was damaged by unknown people.

On April 25th, a damaged banner displaying the symbol of the Russian invasion of Ukraine was replaced with a new one. The new banner featured the letter “V” with the Russian flag in the background. It is said that the wives of the Buryat occupiers were responsible for the replacement of the banner, claiming that their husbands went to war under this very symbol.

Photos of the banner were published on social networks on the official page of the city of Ulan-Ude and the page of the head of the Republic of Buryatia Oleksii Tsidenov in April 2022.

The banner with the letter V hung longer. However, in October 2022, unknown people set it on fire. A relevant video with a burning symbol of the Russian invasion of Ukraine appeared on social networks.
