Educational online event to the International Museum Day | What is a Genocide?

May 18 is International Museum Day. On this occasion, our team is launching a series of educational online events. We invite everyone to join the campaign which unites cultural institutions and their employees, both in Kyiv, in any settlement of Ukraine and abroad.

Lesson: What is  a genocide?
For whom: teenagers 10–14 years old / family visit
About the online event: The lesson aims to form students’ knowledge about the origin and meaning of the term “genocide”. During the lesson, a museum employee talks about Raphael Lemkin and the “Convention on the Prevention of the Crime of Genocide.” Students get acquainted with the documents of 1932–33, analyze the events in Ukraine at that time, and in order to trace exactly how the genocidal acts were carried out, review the testimony of Holodomor eyewitnesses.

The theme of International Museum Day 2021 is “The Future of Museums: Restoration and Rethinking”. During lockdowns and quarantines, we rethought the work and role of museums and learned to communicate differently with our visitors.
And while nothing can replace the visitor’s experience at the museum, we can learn more through digital technology—attending lectures and workshops and communicating with museum workers online.
