The Prime Minister of Ireland visited the Holodomor Museum

As part of an official visit to Ukraine, an Irish delegation led by the country’s Prime Minister Micheal Martin visited the Holodomor Museum. Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy Kateryna Chuyeva and Deputy General Director of the Holodomor Museum Yulia Kotsur accompanied the delegation on the territory of the Museum.

The Irish guests commemorated the Holodomor victims near the sculpture “Bitter Memory of Childhood” and listened to a guided tour of the Museum.

Micheal Martin noted that the topic of famine is very close to Ireland, as his people also experienced this tragedy. (The Great Famine in Ireland, also known as the Irish Potato Famine, covered the country in 1845-1849. The famine was caused by destructive economic policies and provoked by an epidemic of phytopathogenic potato fungus, which destroyed potato plantations and the future harvest.).

The Prime Minister of Ireland also inspected the construction of the II phase of the Holodomor Museum.

It will be recalled that Ireland did not recognize the Holodomor as an act of genocide.
