Russian actor, director and artistic director of Oleg Tabakov Theater, Volodymyr Mashkov, supported Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. Even in the first days of the Russian invasion, he wrote on social networks that the war allegedly unleashed by Russia gave the people of Donbas “hope for peace.”

Mashkov accused the world of allegedly ignoring the war in eastern Ukraine for eight years. He called the current actions of the Russian Federation “defence of Donbas”.

He expressed misunderstanding as to why the war against Ukraine began to be widely condemned in the world. He condemned the cancellation of Russian performances, concerts and other cultural events in different countries of the world, calling Russian culture an integral and most important part of world culture.

In June 2022, during a trip to occupied Luhansk, he called critics of the war “inhumans” who “forced the Russian Federation to resort to such actions. He declared that Russia “protects the Russian language and its brothers and sisters.” At the same time, he spoke in Luhansk wearing a T-shirt with the letter Z depicted.

It is worth noting that Mashkov had a quarrel with his only daughter, Russian actress Maria Mashkova, because of his position on the war against Ukraine. His daughter does not support the criminal war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. Maria, who now lives in the USA, has tried more than once to open her father’s eyes to the truth, but without success.
